What accessories does a new puppy actually need?

Should I walk my puppy on a collar or a harness?
A harness, without exception. A puppy's windpipe is still developing and a collar concentrates every pull on the throat, while a chest harness spreads it across the body. Your puppy still needs a collar for their ID tag, which is a legal requirement in the UK, but walk them on a harness.
What size harness does an 8-week-old puppy need?
Measure the chest girth at its widest point, just behind the front legs, and go by the size guide rather than the breed. The FORMFIT Mesh suits small breeds and young puppies, and both it and the Express adjust at several points so one harness lasts to adulthood.
What is the best lead for a puppy?
For everyday walks, a lightweight lead like the Zero Shock Lite. For recall practice, the Track 'n' Train Slimline gives room to explore while you keep control. Avoid heavy leads on a young dog, as they teach a puppy to lean into the pressure.
Are these accessories suitable for small breeds?
Yes. The FORMFIT Mesh is built for small and medium dogs, and the Lite range uses narrower webbing and lighter hardware so a small puppy isn't weighed down by their own kit.
Do I need a car restraint for a puppy?
Yes. Rule 57 of the Highway Code requires dogs to be restrained in a moving vehicle, and that applies from the journey home. Our car restraints clip directly onto a puppy harness rather than a collar.
Can I personalise my puppy's gear?
Yes. Add a custom dog name label to a harness. It's worth doing early, as a puppy is at its most likely to bolt in the first few months.
Do you sell puppy collars, coats, beds, or crates?
Not in this collection. EzyDog makes walking, training, and travel gear, so this range covers harnesses, leads, and car restraints. You'll find dog collars elsewhere on the site, but check the sizing, as most are built for adult dogs. We don't make beds, crates, or puppy clothing.
How do I wash puppy gear?
Hand wash with mild soap and cool water, then air dry away from direct heat. Avoid the machine and the radiator, both of which stiffen the webbing over time.
